Campbell | i 1 'Crishmen Ta Via -Third-Period Outburst $2 ; Oshawa Crushmen moved into first place in the OHA Lakeshore Junior "B' hockey league Friday J |night by virtue of four unan- #RTERROROUGH "PETES" took over first. place Ine the OHA Junior "A" race, Jast night and did it the hard way, winning a 5-3 decision over the Flyers, right in Niagara Falls, The 'Petes' now have 42 points and have, played one more game than our Oshawa Generals, 'while Niagara Falls, | in third place, have 40 points and they have played one game less than the Generals, This means, in simple math- 'matics, that Oshawa Generals have to win tonight, in order to stay even with Niagara Falls, in second place, and the Flyers would still have a game in hand, Meanwhile, "Petes" will-still have at least a two-point lead, regardiess of to- night's result here at the Civic Auditorium, While the game here is the only Junior "A" schedule fixture for tonight, eight teams are in action on Sunday, with Generals going right back to St. Catharines; Peterborough visiting Kitch- | ener; Niagara Falls playing down in Montreal and Hamilton Red Wings visiting Marlies, tomorrow afternoon. London Nationals climbed out of the cellar again last nigh{, scoring a 41 win over the Junior Canadiens. This marked Wondon's ~; fifth win, and a tie, in their last seven staris, the tie being with Generals,- this week. Kitchener Rangers, in seventh, moved two points closer to sixth-place Marlies when they won at home, over the Dukes, last night, by a 6-2 score. ST, CATHARIN Black Hawks, tenight, holding down last placein the Junior '"'A" race, due to wins by both Kitchener and London last night, will be chomping at the bit, when they hit our Civic Auditorium tonight. Word is out that the Generals have been in a slump and even that tie game against the red-hot London Nationals, pill not have eliminated the idea that Oshawa "can be taken" even on their home ice, tonight. Added incentive for St. Kitts is that they have to win, to get back on even terms with London, because there are eight playoff spots in the Junior "A" League but there's no tomorrow, for the club that ends up in ninth spot. Taking the long, hard look, there's no excuse for Generals losing on their home ice tonight, to the bottom-place team in the league, but. on the other hand, London was in the cellar, prior to their win last night . and who dares call them "a pushover' at this stage? Summing it up, the situation -is crystal clear. "Peanuts" 0'Flaherty's St. Kitts team are going to be giving it the old do-or-die try, here at the Civic Auditorium tonight and if "Bep"' Guidolin's Oshawa Generals aren't in the' same mood, they certainly need to be. It could be one of the rousing'? games of the schedule! And don't forget -- tonight is the 'fourth' voting night of the season, for the 'Most Valuable Player Award', THE R. S. McLAUGHLIN 3-Day Bonspiel, for 19ff, is ence again in the history books but this year's a#inual classic at The Oshawa Curling Club, will not be soon forgotten, Once again they had a provincial-wide entry list, Windsor- to-Perth and as in every year, the hospitality provided by the Bonspiel Committee was out-of-this-world, as they say! Bonspiel Chairman Doug Keel did a. tremendous job -- he succeeded in "'cashing in" on the tips and experiences of various chairmen who have gone before, and came up with just the odd little added touch and improvement. He had a wealth of experience on his committee and they all "paid off' with jobs well done. As usual, the "'home entertain ment", this year under Jack Perry's direction, was the big praise-bit for the visitors. The draw itself, competition and the club's membership hospitality all added to the success. On top of that, the main event victory by Doug Haig's Midland rink was popular with everybody (losers excepted) and other than this rink, there were no "repeat' trophy winners this year, so that meant they had a lot of "new" winners. The ice itself, thanks to Joe Roberts, Fred Garrard and their "'ice" staff, was absolutely "tops" -- all visitors atfested to this; the hospitality and entertainment was like- wise, all the out-of-town rinks praised this; the 'food' served - at the club by "Dick's Eng and his staff, was superb -- there wasn't a single complaint; the prizes were terrific and there were 2% sets of prizes (almost half of the rinks shared in the loot) -- add it all up, and you have only one comment. Visiting rinks made it -- the "hosts" don't have to brag -- the Oshawa 3-Day Bonspiel is still the best bonspiel of the season, in Ontario!
