see AN te ene es CRN. $2 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursdey, April 21, 1966 MPP Fears Socialization Car Insurance Industry TORONTO (CP)--A Liberal ™ member of the legislature Wed- . nesday predicted socialization of the auto insurance industry if the government does not take steps for firmer control. Vernon Singer (L -- Downs- view), said the Conservative government's failure to control the industry could lead to such a crisis in the near future. Also in the house: --Labor Minister Leslie Rown- tree offered to conduct a gov- ernment - supervised vote of striking Teamsters' Union members, if the union and the trucking industry request it. --Attorney - General Arthur Wishart said that liquor, not 2 mysterious religious cult, was responsible for the deaths of 15 Indians hit by trains in the Kenora district since 1961. --Fern Guindon (PC -- Stor- mont) labelled opposition government take-over of auto in- surance, but public concern might ultimately demand this and cost 5,000 insurance agents their jobs. He suggested the government set up a committee to review complaints, and should not ac- cept insurance companies' com- plaints that they lose money on auto insurance, Insurance companies that cancel policies should be forced by the government to file a written reason for the cancella- tion. The government should exam- ine premium rates and look int' the whole question of lack o competition in rates to deter- mine whether Canada's fair trade practices laws have been breached. Mr. Singer said that in good years insurance companies take their profits, but in bad years members of the legislature filibustering cry - babies. He said the public is aware the! opposition is "filibustering the business of this house." TIME RUNS OUT Mr. Singer told Transport Minister Irwin Haskett that "time is running out," for the! government to control the auto) insurance industry He said he did not favor a/ increase premiums.
