He had the good example of a righteous father--Hezekiah, who did so much to lead his people back to God and their destiny) apap, as the chosen people-and he had the advantage of an excel- lent religious upbringing. Yet, Manesseh turned out to be a degenerate ruler, one whose very name has become a by- word for all that is evil.
