6A THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, July 29, 1966 Whitby Ready The town of Whitby is in an admirable position for current and anticipated industrial ex- pansion in the near future. This is especially so because of its modern harbor, one of the finest in Canada outside the metro-areas, There is much activity around the harbor these days, but the big point is that the town has some _ impressive assets for shipping. Firms that would ship by bulk carrier will find a modern 800-foot dock area less than one mile from For Growth Highway 401 and within two miles of the principal indus- trial zones, In addition to this, the harbor was deepened te a minimum of 20 feet L.W.D. (effective depth 22 to 23 feet) which makes it available to Great Lakes and overseas shipping. For added facilities, a CNR spur _ line parallels part of the new dock. The harbor gained new im- portance when Lake Ontario Steel Co. located about one mile away -- started to use the harbor for export and import, © Whitby's Counterpart Has Glorious Tradition The town of Whitby, Ont., is named after Whitby, England, which has a glorious historical past.
