Suppose you took the jack with the king and tackled hearts. West would win the first heart lead and return a diamond, whereupon the ace would be forced out and you would eventually lose a spade, two hearts and two diamonds for down one. Once you duck the jack of diamonds at trick two, your troubles ate over. Regardless of what happens next, you can force out the A-K of hearts and establish three heart -tricks while the opponents, in the meantime, find themselves ut- terly unable to attack success- fully in either of their long Suits. Wheat Crop Hits Record MELBOURNE (AP) -- Aus- tralia's wheat crop for the pres- ent season is officially forecast at a record high 420,000,000 bushels, of which 330,000,000 are available for export. Not sufferers--and we are continu- ing to find out how widespread this lung condition is. He is Dr. Thomas L. Petty, director of respiratory care at the University of Colorado med- ical centre, and thus speaks with authority. He refers to an item in this column which, if memory Wi|serves me right, was from an emphysema patient who lived on the ocean front, and won- dered if a drier climate might help him breathe more easily. It was and is my.impression that too muggy an atmosphere can be oppressive to some pa- tients. the opposite possibility: "I can't agree," he says, "that better than sea air in your an- swer to the question concerning emphysema. "As a matter of fact, ex-/ cessive drying of secretions is not good and we endeeavor to increase humidifcation of the inspired air in all of these pa- tients. I thought you would be interested." DON'T RUSH EXTREMES Indeed I am interested, and grateful. In this, as in many health problems, one has to be careful not to rush to extremes. If a sultry atmosphere disagrees with a person, it does not follow that an arid climate will be any bettefy Certainly excessive dry- ing of the respiratory passages isn't good either. The comment from Colorado takes cognizance of this--that dry air isn't necessarily better. What is best for the patient is Doctor Gives View On Lung Condition By JOSEPH G. MOLNER, MD hi ability to expel air in sufficient quantity from his lungs, and be- cause of that fact he cannot, in turn, inhale enough fresh air. Anything that interferes with for him. Smog is harmful. So is anything else weather can be a problem. Unless some method is used to humidify the air, a house can become bone dry as winter progresses. Getting more mois- ture into such homes can be important to emphysema pa- tients. Emphysema is, indeed, a "dry" disease as contrasted with bronchiectasis, which in- volves puddling of moist secre- tions, and medication to loosen phlegm is often a part of treat- ing emphysema. One last word on changing climates: I make it an invariabl rule not to urge moving to an- other area lightly. One should have sound reason before tear- whatever condition most helps im. The essential problem of the person with emphysema is in- his breathing fresh air is bad smoking, which is self - made smog. So is catching cold, or that obstructs breathing passages. Bitter cold the Australian wheat board, Dr. Allan R. Callaghan, who said more than 120,000,000 bushels already have been sold for ex- port. The previous record crop was 369,000,000 bushels two years ago. _ The heavy crop this year is in part due to a long drought over much of eastern Australia that ended toward the end of the year. During the drought some farmers who had raised sheep and also grown wheat had to get rid of the sheep because of lack of feed. When the rains came they planted wheat heav- ily to get a quick cash return. ce Soca dads ected ieee SALLY'S SALLIES 'SOLAR PLEXIS wot Buow "The other dance starts at ten #0 don't. get. te xs way of being sure is to try visit- ing {he new location first, pref- erably doing so at different times of year.
