Earle Mclaughlin has had a long association with the bank -- an association that actually dates back to the day of his birth when a proud grandfather marched down to, the Royal Bank's branch in Oshawa, Ont., and opened an account in the @ name of his new grandson. That was September, 1915. Brought up and educated in Oshawa, Mr. McLaughlin at- tended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, graduating with honors in economics ard history in 1936. Levi went to another merchant and told him of the desperate need for the $5.50 to pay the taxes. Finally the sec- ond merchant agreed to ad- vance the money on condition that he receive the whole crop from the 31 acres. Thus it was he received $5.50 in cash from 31 acres of wheat, all the rest of the payment being in goods. Speaking further of Levi An- nis, son of pioneer Charles An- nis who settled here with his family in the early days.he sav-| ed enough money when 18 from| his trapping activities to buy! two six-months-old calves. Just before he bought them he was | offered for the same amount) of money 100 acres of land some distance from the lake. For days he was in doubt as to whether he should buy the 100 acres or the calves. He let the land go and bought the calves. Had he bought the land he would have likely seen a part of the} town of Oshawa built upon it the move agent for 85 Bond St. W.
