In the Hamilton area, the con- tract negotiations affect approx- imately 475 bricklayers, all members of Local 1. They voted 98 per cent in favor of authoriz- ing a strike. Similar situations exist in Brantford, Kitchener and Guelph locals, as government conciliation officers failed to Make any progress in negotia- tions. Union bricklayers here now are making $3.78 an hour. The men have already turned down the company's offer of a 45- cent-an-hour boost over a three- year period, plus an increase in holiday pay from four per cent - to five per cent. Strike Looms In Welland WELLAND (CP)--By a vote of 22 to 1, Welland Local, 927, International Typographe ical Union, has authorized its negotiation committee to call strike at its discretion over wage demands at the Welland Tribune. Gordon Meyer, committee chairman, said negotiations that began last November broke down on economic issues.
