2A THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, June 26, 1967 Today's Bride Often Follows The Traditions The bride who walks down the aisle this year probably will be dressed in an_ ultra- simple gown with classic lines and decorations that is limited to bodice, sleeves or veil. Most of the gowns are de- signed in either the A-line or empire styles. There are few of the bouffant type skirts, long associated with bridal gowns. Nor is there the layered look of net and organza that made the bride look as though she 'was wrapped rather than dres- sed. One of the most popular fab- rics will be Irish linen, simple yet rich looking. Trains are all detachable and are either in the circular or court style. Feminine touches are added to the gowns with lace trims at the yoke, on the sleeves, skirt and veil. Particularly pop- ular is the Guipure lace, with larger overall patterns. Of a variety of gowns shown in a spring collection, all had one thing in common -- sim- plicity, Many of them were oe styles, with billowing silk or- ganza over a skimmer - style underdress of peau de soie or crepe, Bridesmaids' gowns were al- so simple, indicating that de- signers are thinking of the girl who wants to be able to wear the dress as a formal after the wedding without having it scream "bridesmaid". The _ bridesmaids' dresses were unfitted, usually sleeve- jess, in an empire style. One particularly outstanding bridesmaid's dress was a silk chiffon print in blue, green, purple and other bright colors, with a flowing skirt and match- ing hairbow. Of Yesterday Among the outstanding bri- dal gowns were: --An Irish linen fitted skim- mer with detachable train trim- med in Guipure lace. ---A sleeveless "cage" dress of net over organza featuring a coin dot design and topped by a high headdress. --A silk linen trimmed with nandmade Alencon lace and handmade a standaway lace col- lar. The dress was topped with a bow headdress. ~--An organza dress with em- broidered Swiss net on _ top, featuring an all - embroidered net headdress set on a high skulleap. White is still the favorite col- or for wedding gowns although off white and light ivory are gaining in popularity. Various shades of ivory particularly should be considered if the bride has an heirloom lace veil she is trying to match. Bargain Sale Nets $96,000 For Israel LONDON (CP)--It was billed as the fashion sale of the year and the 10,000 women shoppers who fought and elbowed their way into one of London's larg- est ballrooms heartily agreed. Bargains were everywhere. Evening dresses worth $90 went for $9, $60 coats for $12, mini- skirts for $3 and hats for a shill- ing. Not one item was priced at more than $15 and that included 12 fur coats. The once - in - a = lifetime sale was organized by the As- sociated Fashion Designers of London and all proceeds went to the Jewish Palestine appeal. More than 70 dress manufactur- ers from all over Britain do- nated nearly 20,000 pieces of ready - to - wear clothes. The two - day sale, which started Saturday morning, raised $96,000 for Israel and the hordes of bargain - hunters had their pick of clothes displayed on 350 metal racks and 17,000 coat hangers.
