6 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, July 11, 1967 % THIS the wandering goalkeeper, o IS the case o what happens when Marshall is on the attack Several times last night, a Civic Auditorium, Marshal left the friendly confines o| his goal-crease to participate in the Oshawa Green Gaels attack. Twice he was knocked flying by Brampton players. with some hectic action fol lowing both incidents. On the was crashed into the boards. While first play, Marshall he was still lying on the floor, Brampton captain Keates practically walked al over him, bringing several Gaels on the run. NOTHING SERIOUS oc curred at this point, but late in the second period, with the run, Keates charged him from be- hind and drove him into the boards alongside the Bramp- Keates two he was surrounded Marshall again on ton bench. Before could take more than strides, by green sweaters, with John Clayton the most prominent. They staged a brief one- rounder before officials could separate them, with Keates picking up a pair of majors. MEANWHILE, in another bout, about 30 feet away from the main rounder, Gaels' Dwight Davies was in the process of demolishing Allan Johns. It was a solid exhibi- tion by the Gaels' defencen.an and provided the fans with more action than the heavy- weight scrap at Civic Audi- torium in April. When the officials got around to assess- ing penalties, for some strange reason Gaels' Jim Higgs and Brampton's Mark Evans were jugged for five minutes each for fighting, along with the other scrap- pers. WHAT THE incident indi- cates is that the Gaels aren't going to allow anyone to push their goalkeeper around on his trips up the floor, although technically he's on his own. Anyone who tries to get rough with Marshall had better be prepared to defend himself in a hurry. This doesn't mean Gaels intend to go after everyone who checks Mar- shall. There's such a thing as a legal check, but the two Merv Gord | SPORTS BEAT | By Eric Wesslby Times Sports Editor f cases last night were both out r . the game. rN 1 LARRY LLOYD was carry- with authority and his scoring this season has more than made up for the loss of Brain » Thompson to .the Huntsville Larry started last season with the Gaels but wound up with the junior "'B" Steelers. One night game was played during the Second World War but there was no television at that time. THE NATIONAL Leaguers head into this game with everything going for them. They've won the last four games and will catch the American Leaguers without ace outfielders Al Kaline and Frank Robinson, both of whom suffered recent injuries. With the top two hitters miss- ing from the lineup, you'd ex- pect the American Leaguers to be a soft touch but man- ager Hank Bauer will still have Tony Oliva, Tony Conig- liaro and Carl Yastrzemski in there swinging from the out- field positions, and they are three of the top young hitters in baseball today. NATIONAL LEAGUE man- ager Walt Alston won't have Sandy Koufax available for pitching this time around, but he still has pitchers like Juan Marichal, Bob Gibson, Fergu- son Jenkins, Tom Seaver, Chris Short, Don Drysdale and Claude Osteen. And in case you're wondering who Seaver is, he fanned Atlanta's Hank Aaron three times Sat- urday night, with the Braves' slugger leaving seven runners on base in a tight ball game.
