Ronald Sanderson, vice-presi- dent of the Canadian Associa- tion of Real Estate Boards, said a workyhan man "would be obli- gated far two lifetimes" by pur- chasing a house and Jot in the Bramalma development. 'You can't build a working man's home a $9,000 to $10,000 lot." He ntrasted the home prices far single lots in Brama- lea--$9,200 to $9,900 -- with a recent pwivate sale of 50 lots in Oakville, about the same dis- tance ad Bramalea from Tor- onto, at $8,500 to $9,000 each. Lots in Toronto run $10,000 to $12,000. The HDME program permits a maxingum house cost of $15,- 000, and some estimates are that the complete price of a Bramalea house and lot would be $21, Ontario Housing Corp. officials say that under the HOME plan down payments could be as low as $650, com. pared with $5,000 to $7,000 in Metropolitan Toronto. In an interview published in the current isdue of The Medi- cal Post, Dr. Melvin says it would be impossible to conceive of a situation "where the medi- cal profession | would sit back and jet injured! people pile up in emergency." However, many doctors might dodge the issue by going fishing or suddenly deciding to take postgraduate ciurses. The OMA stiike action com- mittee formed Jast January was a contingency development as a Tine of defenee against any further government intervention between the physician and his patient, Dr. Miclvin said. The profession would like to have a guarantee that the right of the physician to opt out of medicare be written into new medical care Negislation, and that powers of Hicensing remain with the provincial College of Physicians and.
