The 65-page book relates the history of the town over the past 100 years with special emphasis on the year 1867 and this centennial year. The main credit for the book goes to a young' Henry Street Winter who compiled all of the High School student Brian Winter who compiled all of the historic material in the book. The book contains a map of the business section 100 years ago and includes numerous old photegraphs as well. as pictures of present municipal personal- ities and events. OVERALL PICTURE In his introduction Mr. Win- ter points out that the book is = designed to give an overall pic- ture of the town a century ago. © He mentions that although Whit- © by is rich in history relatively little of it is recorded. The book is divided into two | main sections with numerous sub - sections and the first 30 Pages are devoted to "A Color- ful Past" with the back 35 pag- es described as "One Hundred Years Later". The publication was edited and produced by Raymond Huff with cover design by Reid Studios of Oshawa and photog- raphy by Bill Stannett of Whit+ b y. The booklet will be on sale this weekend during the car- nivail at information centres lo- cated at the Whitby harbor, the Whitby bowling green and at the Canadian Legion Hall on Byron Street as well as the police station and a number of downtown stores. The publication was produced with the backing of the Whitby Centennial Celebrations Commit- tee under chairman Vernon MacCarl. He said of any profit was made on the 5,000 book edition it would go to the cen- tennia) building committee. He said he hoped the book selling at $1 would be sold out in the first week.
