WITH THEIR director, Mrs. Laverne Rousseau, For Young 'Melody Chords' By IDOLA SIMPSON | But the of The Times Staff WHITBY (Staff) -- young girls and a mother are proving that "harmony begins| at home." It all started two yeafs ago} when Mrs. Laverne Rousseau| Started mixing apron strings with vocal chords in tying to- gether the nine-member Melody Chords. Three of the 10 to 16 year old singers are her daughters; three are nieces and three are friends. Mrs. Rousseau, who is a charter member of the Oshawa Sweet Adelines, started show- ing her youngsters how to har- monize. Her nieces became in- terested and the other girls ask- ed to join. So now the singing mother is also a director. The girls practice for two hours each Tuesday evening. SINGING SERIOUS All the girls take their sing- ing seriously and Marie Rou- seau, a student at St. John separate school, said she would like to follow her mother's example and keep on with herlo¢ the Whitby County Town singing lessons to try and ap- pear on television.
