20 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Seturdey, December 2, 1967 CAPT. G. QUICK « + - Busy Program Band Has Busy Program The Band of the Ontario Regi- ment is getting into the Christ- mas spirit early. Their program at the Oshawa Civie Auditorium Friday night was well laced with the tradi- tional Yuletide numbers. The 35-member band, under Capt. George Quick, had an- other surprise for the fans at- tending the Ottawa - Oshawa fire fighters' fund-raising hock- é€y game on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy. : They gave a spirited rendi- swingy new European song hit. This marked the first time the new number has been presented by a band in Canada, according to Secretary - Manager Reg. Martyn. The band, which donated its fees to the Muscular Dystrophy fund, will present a series of concerts in the next few weeks at the Boys' Training School in Bowmanville, Hillsdale Manor here, and the Ontario Hospital in Whitby. They have been presenting 2 weekly series of Summer con- certs at the McLaughlin Band- shell in Memorial Park since it was first opened in 1941. Stars Shirk - Tax Bite Some top-flight U.S. enter- tainers now ask for 60 per cent of the gross for one-night stands in Canada, the Ontario Arena Association was told at a meet- ing in Kitchener this week. Agents for some of the stars told the OAA that the 15 per cent federal tax for non-resi- dent performers was some- times a "deterrent" for getting Pod names" to cross the bor- tion of Puppet on A String, a| U TONIGHT THE SAINT -- Simon Tem- plar (Roger Moore) is asked to follow a civil servant -- who has defected with a top secret file. William C. Kurelo, City Com- missioner of Arenas and of the Oshawa Civic Auditorium, told of "inequality clauses" in some which allowed stars to ak a contract within four weeks of the engagement. Seven Ontario arenas -- North Bay, Sudbury, Kingston, Brock- ville, Oshawa, London and Pointe Claire -- will offer the stars a package deal whereby the latter could include all seven points on a single trip. As an indication of the current asking price (in U.S. currency) of the big stars for one-night stands, the meeting was given these figures: Buck Owens Country Music, $4,800; Glenn Miller Band, $5,300; and The Supremes, the Detroit girl trio, $15,000 per night.
