\ @ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Be Tuesdey, December 5, 1967 Alderman Charged NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. (CP) -- Ald. John Graaskamp has been charged with assault and wilful dama_ > by Thorold Town- ship police in connection with a property dispute between him- self and the township over his personal centennial project The charges arose from an in- cident Nov, 28 at the site of the former Black Horse Tavern, a century-old public house at the intersection of Highways 20 and 58 about 15 miles west of the city. Mr. Graaskamp planned to restore the tavern The alderman wrestled with police and township officials and defied a bulldozer when work crews were brought on to the property by the township to remove the building which had collapsed in a high wind last October. The property, adjacent to a public school, had been declared a safety hazard by the town- ship. Mr. Graaskamp had been ordered to remove the debris. When work crews sent by the township arrived the alderman ordered them off the property and impounded their bulldozer. Mexicans Missing MEXICO CITY (AP) -- About 20 Mexican workers were be- lieved still missing today in the wreckage of a bridge under con- struction that collapsed into a deep canyon on the outskirts of Mexico City. Ten bodies were recovered and one survivor was pulled from beneath a pile of rock be- fore search operations were sus- pended at midnight Monday night because of poor visibility and the danger of a further col- lapse. Jose Cruz Bolanos, an agent of the public works ministry, said about 30 workers were be- lieved killed when the centre span plunged into the canyon early Monday night. The exact number of men on the bridge was not known, he said, as new laborers had been hired during the day. The survivor, Angel Aguirre, said 19 others were working around him. Rescue workers said there was little hope that anyone else survived. No explanation for the col- apse has been found. Fire Sweeps Lethbridge LETHBRIDGE (CP) -- A fire described as the worst in the city's history Monday night de- stroyed a restaurant, three other businesses and portions of & hotel housed in a hotel-con- vention centre.
