Now that Whitby’s Glenn Beauchamp has secured his second trip to the Olympics, the 26-year-old will be traveling all over the world during the next four months as part of his training schedule. “We don’t have enough high level players in Canada so we have to travel,” says Beauchamp, who qualified in the 71 kg. Division at the Canadian championships in April.
Beauchamp, along with the Canadian judo team, will be traveling to Vienna, Tokyo, Hawaii and Vancouver.
In Vienna and Tokyo, Beauchamp will be entering tournaments, attending training camps and fighting opponents of different styles.
In Hawaii, besides the judo training, he will be doing alternative training, including running.
“I have a good chance of winning a medal; no one is unbeatable,” says Beauchamp, who expects the travelling to be a very valuable experience.
During his travels, Beauchamp will write a column for The Free Press detailing his experiences, thoughts and feelings of his opponents as they also prepare for the Olympics, to be held in Seoul, Korea, this September.
The columns will allow the readers of The Free Press to understand what it takes to make an Olympic Champion.
