Whitby’s Lori Melien travelled to Etobicoke on the weekend to participate in the Ontario Cup swimming championships at the Etobicoke Olympium.
Melien had a strong performance at the championship with her second place finishes in both the 100 m. breaststroke and 50 m. freestyle events.
Her next meet is the Olympic trials, the qualifying meet for Olympic swim team members to be held in Montreal at the end of the month.
With only three weeks remaining before the meet, Melien is continuing her rigorous training in the hopes of obtaining a spot on the Olympic squad.
“The Olympics have been a goal of mine since I’ve started to swim, and I’m working real hard to make the team this year.”
The Olympic swim team will compete in the 1988 Summer Olympics to be held in Seoul, Korea, this summer.
I’m a bit nervous because it’s so close, and the waited so long for this moment to come,” says Melien.
