Swimmer Lori Melien of Whitby, coming back strongly after knee surgery, won the 100 metre backstroke at the Summer Nationals held recently in Etobicoke.
Melien, who won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea, also earned a bronze in the 100 m. butterfly and was fourth in the 50 m. butterfly at the nationals.
She was on a team with Kristin Tophan, Peggy Corkham and Jean Kerr that won the 4 by 100 m. freestyle relay.
