Description
Two young children pose awkwardly for the camera. The caption to the photograph states that the children were begging near the train station in Kharkiv. The young boy’s face is unnaturally swollen. Swelling is a common symptom of advanced starvation, particularly in the legs, abdomen, or face; but the swelling could be the result of severe infection as well. Both children appear destitute and exhausted, particularly the young girl.
