- A young or middle-aged man lies dead against a building in a somewhat run-down section of Kharkiv. Most likely from the countryside, he was one of countless migrants from the starving farms and villages who came to the city in search of employment or access to food, and found neither.
The version that appears in Wienerberger’s memoir Hart auf hart presents a closer view, with much of the open foreground not shown.
