Buriak mentions that there was enough grain and other foodstuff in 1932, but this was taken away and rotted at the railway station while people were starving. He reports the deaths of entire families, names them: Klymenko, Varychenko, Storozhenko. He also describes survival strategies, like eating weeds and mussels from the Buh River. He says the famine was created artificially by Stalin “the torturer” (kat).
