Lytvynchuk was 8 at the time of the famine, attending elementary school in a village of 60 farmsteads.
Her strongest memory is about a young teacher who was sent to teach at their school. The children loved him and tried to support him by bringing him bird eggs, but he died of starvation anyway.
She responded to a call for submissions in Literaturna Ukraina. She is a teacher herself.
