- Members of the Bokan family gather near the gate to their home as Vladimir Bokan leaves for a separate residence. Vladimir was urged to leave and become self-sufficient by his father, Nikolai Bokan. Nikolai was struggling to feed his large family during the famine. Vladimir is pictured third from the left wearing a cap, with his packed belongings alongside him. Vladimir was twenty-five years old at the time of his departure.
