Photos by Shawn McAlpine The Region and its residents have once again been recognized for their efforts in battery recycling. The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a non-profit public service organization, has named Halton the co-recipient of Canada's Regional Community Recycling Award. The RBRC commended the Region recently for its recycling efforts in its fifth annual Community Recycling Leadership Awards. This is the second year Halton has been recognized for excellence in battery recycling. In 2005, Halton residents recycled 5,622 kg of rechargeable batteries, which is almost 2,000 kg more than residents recycled the year before. The amount of rechargeable batteries recycled in 2005 placed Halton Region as one of the leading battery recycling communities in Canada.
