Driver gets five years in jail for fatal Norval crash Toronto man had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, court told A Toronto man was sentenced in Milton Superior Court Wednesday to five years in jail and an eight-year driving prohibition in connection with a fatal crash in Norval in June 2004. Mahesh Ramsoondar, 33, was convicted of one count of impaired driving causing death, three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of dangerous driving causing death and one count of driving with over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. In the June 6, 2004 accident a 1988 Pontiac driven by Ramsoondar was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Guelph St. when it left the roadway. The car tumbled end over end, ejecting four of its six occupants before coming to rest in a field. Pearl "Cindy" Bhawanie, 30 of Toronto, died in the crash. The other five occupants in the car received serious injuries. During Ramsoondar's trial held March 6 to 23, jury heard evidence that his blood/alcohol level was 230 and 270 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood at the time of the collision. The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol. Three candidates enter election race Three more candidates have registered for the upcoming municipal election. John Duncan, of Banting Rd., is running for the position of Ward 4 local councillor and Phil McBride, a Main St. S. resident, and David Kentner, of Ostrander Blvd., are both seeking a Ward 3 local council post. Duncan and McBride registered on Tuesday and Kentner on Thursday. Ward 4 is currently served by longtime councillors Ron Chatten and Bob Inglis. Chatten has already announced his intention to retire. Current Ward 3 councillors are Mike Davis and Moya Johnson. The deadline to register as a candidate for the November 13 election is September 29.
