Making children water-wise Halton Region is committed to enhancing water conservation, education and environmental efforts. This September, Conservation Halton and Halton Region will provide 3,000 Halton children with a unique opportunity to learn about this precious resource through the inaugural Halton Children's Water Festival. The Festival is being held from September 26-28 at the Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Instilling a strong conservation ethic in our children is fundamental to the Festival objectives. Conservation Halton and Halton Region have partnered with the Halton Catholic District School Board, the Halton District School Board and the Town of Oakville to ensure thousands of children in grades three to five have the opportunity to attend. The children will explore, inquire and investigate more than 40 interactive activity centres with a focus on five central themes: water conservation, health and safety, protection, science and technology and stewardship. The Festival is a community collaboration. Conservation Halton and Halton Region are committed to a long-term partnership that will lead to a successful and financially sustainable Water Festival in Halton. The Festival is supported by a very generous multi-year Ontario Trillium Foundation grant given to Conservation Halton. To further enhance our children's learning experience and to continu- Joyce Savoline ally work on improving the Festival, we also rely on high school and community volunteers and generous in-kind or monetary contributions. I encourage Halton's business community and residents to become a sponsor or volunteer in this Festival that provides a hands-on learning opportunity about one of our most valuable natural resources. The governments will also be urged to consider other farmland conservation incentives to ensure that farmland remains in agriculture.
