Labourer suffers broken ribs in fall A 40-year-old Brampton man was injured when he fell 15 ft. from a crane at a new home site on River Dr. in Georgetown Monday morning. Halton Police report the man was operating a truck-mounted crane to unload bales of concrete foundation forming panels at a home under construction when the bolts at the base of the crane sheared off, causing the crane to collapse and fall across the foundation of the house. The man was tossed from the seat of the crane and fell to the foundation floor. He was rushed to Georgetown Hospital where he was treated for broken ribs. School bus orientation day scheduled for August 26 The Halton School Bus Safety Committee is assisting parents and first time riders in understanding the importance of school bus safety. The committee, with representatives from both school boards and all bus operators in Halton, is hosting its annual School Bus Orientation Day on Saturday, Aug. 26, starting at 9 a.m. In Georgetown it will be held at Georgetown District High School, hosted by Laidlaw Transit Ltd, 905-877-2251 and in Acton it will be held at Acton High School, hosted by Tyler Transport Ltd, 519-853-1550. To register students for a preferred time slot, parents should call the host bus company at the desired location. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the free sessions, which will feature a classroom presentation on school bus safety, including a special Winnie-the Pooh video and a demonstration on a school bus. School bus company safety officers and bus drivers will talk to the children about safely getting on and off of the bus, proper behaviour on a school bus, crossing the street to get to a waiting bus and overall school bus safety. 4
