The Norval Community Association has received a Ontario Trillium grant to honour Norval Women's Institute's 100th anniversary. Photo submitted Norval group gets grant The Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded a $48,200 grant to the Norval Community Association to celebrate Norval's heritage. Association president Joyce Hutton was thrilled with the grant noting it will help to commemorate an important event in the village-- the 100th anniversary of the Norval Women's Institute. "Many of our citizens can trace their heritage back to the first group of women, who became the founding members of the Norval Women's Institute," said Hutton. "This is a very significant historic event in the village of Norval, one the whole community is proud to celebrate." With the grant, an interpretive gazebo will be built in Norval Park and dedicated to the W.I. at special unveiling ceremony in Norval Park on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. Refreshments will follow at Norval Presbyterian Church. The Association also plans to erect plaques to commemorate early settlers at Norval's two pioneer cemeteries, McNab on Old Pinecrest Rd. and St. Paul's Anglican cemetery on Winston Churchill Blvd. The Norval Walking Tour brochure will also be updated identifying historic buildings, including three significant heritage churches still serving the community. The Norval Community Association has a long history of co-operative projects with the Norval W.I. including upgrades to McNab Park, such as benches, a historic plaque, tree plantings and a parking lot.
