Kraft Canada will match donations up to a maximum of $30,000 across Ontario at participating food banks. The program aims to raise $60,000 or more in Ontario and $300,000 nationwide for food banks during this time of year when food banks across the country are experiencing dangerously low levels of supplies after the summer holidays. Area residents can make a donation online at www.cafb.ca or by mail, phone or in person at their local food bank. Georgetown Bread Basket's phone number is 905-8733368, its address is 55 Sinclair Ave., Unit 12, Georgetown, ON, L7G 4X4. The hours are Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. "Families need food on the table during this crucial period." The summer months are traditionally a time when demand for food is at a critical high, yet supply is at its lowest, which leaves a food drought in September. With many people vacationing between June and August, food donations diminish. Food banks also report that there is also an overall lack of awareness that food is needed at times beyond the more active holiday drives. "We encourage everyone in Ontario to help us support hungry families in this time of need and throughout the year," said Dino Bianco, president of Kraft Canada Inc. "We hope that millions will rise to the challenge and join us in this effort to help fight hunger." Donations can also be mailed to the CAFB c/o Kraft Hunger Challenge, 2938 Dundas St. W., Suite 303 Toronto, ON, M6P 1Y8 or by calling 1-877-535-0958. A tax receipt for income tax purposes will be issued for all donations of $10 and more. Town to transfer parcel of land for heliport obstacle light The Town of Halton Hills will transfer an easement parcel of land on Atwood Dr. at Poet's Path to Halton Healthcare Services for its new heliport obstacle light. The price of the land: $2. The hospital will also pay for the costs of the transfer. A fair market value assessment of the land was estimated at $5,000. No one attended a recent public meeting on the transfer. Neighbouring residents had already been informed last spring of the light's installation, which is now operational. Not only does it provide directional lighting to the hospital's helicopter pad, it serves as a warning of the neighbouring residential area. Councillor Ron Chatten said he had discussed the issue with some of the residents living in there area. "They're very aware of how beneficial it (the light) is." year-round, but many people don't think about donating to the food bank in the summer, which creates stress on our food bank reserves during the busy back-to-school season," said Marian Viant, director and media co-ordinator for Georgetown Bread Basket. "Hunger is always top of mind for us and the Kraft Hunger Challenge is just one way that we're working to address it Three advance poll dates set The Town of Halton Hills has set its advance voting dates for the 2006 municipal election.
