Police accepting donations to aid needy during holidays Throughout December Halton Police will once again be accepting donations of toys, food and clothing for the needy at stations in Georgetown and Milton. Warm clothing, such as winter coats, hats, mittens and boots will be collected for the Salvation Army's "Bundle Up" program to be distributed to both adults and children. Any new, unwrapped toys dropped at the stations will also go to the Salvation Army as part of its Toys for Tots program. Especially needed are gifts for kids aged 10 to 14. The program, a partnership between Canadian Tire, the Salvation Army and Halton Regional Police, ensures every child will share in the joy and magic of the season. "Despite the relative affluence of our community, police officers regularly come into contact with people in need. It breaks our hearts to see families who have barely enough money to put food in their children's mouths." said Superintendent Joe Taylor. "We know that the Salvation Army is there helping all year long and we want to do our part." The Georgetown Police station is located at 217 Guelph St. The Milton station is at 490 Childs Dr. JUMPSTART program accepting applications Canadian Tire's Foundation for Families is hoping to give local less fortunate children a JUMPSTART in spring and summer recreation programs next year. With the help of Canadian Tire associate dealers and petroleum agents, the local Halton Hills Chapter of JUMPSTART (formed with partners from the Town of Halton Hills, Region of Halton, Georgetown Bread Basket and Optimist Club of Georgetown) is able to support children in various programs throughout the year. So far the Halton Hills Chapter has been able to help more than 90 children access activities such as soccer, baseball, hockey, outdoor programs and kung-fu. Joining the list of sponsors this year is the Men's Lacrosse pick-up league, Georgetown and Acton Soccer Clubs, Acton Minor Hockey Association and Halton Hills Minor Lacrosse. The Halton Hills JUMPSTART chapter is also encouraging community sport organizations, businesses and interested citizens to help build this fund to ensure more children experience the benefits of participating in recreation and sport. Receipts are available for contributions.
