Ballinafad woman in stable condition following house fire A Ballinafad woman suffered burn injuries and smoke inhalation in a fire in her home recently. Halton Hills firefighters had to smash a patio door to get into the smoke-filled house when they responded to a residential alarm on Shorthill Road Friday, Dec. 15. Firefighters responded at approximately 4 p.m. and found smoke coming from the residence. The fire in the living room, where the woman was found, had been extinguished when firefighters arrived. Halton Region Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital and fire crews ventilated the house. On Thursday a spokesperson for the fire department said the woman was in stable condition at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario. The spokesperson said preliminary investigation points to careless disposal of smoking materials as the cause of the fire. Trash collection during holidays will occur a day after regular pickup During the holiday season there will be changes to waste collection services. For the weeks of December 25 and January 1, collection will take place the day after residents' regular collection day. There will be collection services on Boxing Day, December 26. Collection times may vary due to high volumes of waste material and poor weather conditions. Residents are asked to please place their waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day. Christmas trees will be collected in the urban areas beginning the week of January 8. The Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) will maintain its regular operating hours and will be open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but will be closed on Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1. The HWMS is located at 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton.
