Acton/Georgetown, Friday, May 11, 2007 15 ENTERTAINMENT Award-winning author returns to his Georgetown roots Hugh Brewster, the author of several non-fiction award-winning best sellers for children, remembers a great deal about Georgetown. He vividly recalls the day in his early teens when his father, Dr. Brewster, moved the family to Guelph-- November 22, 1963, the same day President Kennedy was shot! He also remembers his most formative years here in town where he attended Harrison, Wrigglesworth and Park schools. But it is his almost daily visits to the library that he remembers most fondly. When he had read through all of the children's books at a young age, the library staff made a rare exception of the rules to allow him access to the adult section. In fact, his first book award was from the head librarian of the time, given to him for correctly identifying the most quotations from various children's literature. His Georgetown years must get some credit for his decision to pursue a literary career, first in the book publishing industry and later as the creator and writer of history books on a variety of topics, from the Titanic (882 1/2 Amazing Answers to Your Questions about the Titanic which sold over a million copies and won the Children's Information Book Award) to Princess Anastasia. His books are always beautiful to look at and packed with illustrations or photographs to enhance his information. On Juno Beach, a Silver Birch winner, has become a staple in all school libraries and in the libraries of everyone interested in Canada's role in DDay. Brewster currently has two new books. At Vimy Ridge is almost a companion piece to On Juno Beach and celebrates Canada's role at the historic battlefield, just in time for the recent 90th anniversary. The Other Mozart: The Life of the Chevalier de Saint-George tells the extraordinary story of Joseph SaintGeorge, a former slave from Haiti who arrived in Paris as a very young man. Saint-George conquered every limitation he faced by becoming a champion swordsman, violin virtuoso, composer, and military commander in the French Revolution. Brewster will be visiting in town on Wednesday, May 17 for a special musical literary event at The Freckled Lion Bookstore, 56 Main St. S. at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event. For more information, please call The Freckled Lion at 905873-1213. Also on hand will be Mr. Ron Greidanus, director of the Georgetown Bach Chorale and organist at St. George's Anglican Church. Greidanus has researched the music of Saint-George, and on the harpischord will play the music of `The Other Mozart' and his contemporaries in a fitting tribute to a remarkable man. It should be yet another fond memory for Mr. Brewster to recall. BRAKE MAINTENANCE SERVICE $ THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A BRAKE JOB IS TRUST. 59 95 front or rear disc brakes Plus Taxes.
