The Kiwanis Club of Georgetown will donate the proceeds from its annual Lobsterfest on Friday, June 1, to community projects. Lobsterfest is a longtime tradition for the Kiwanis Club, and its most popular event. The lobsters (1,800 pounds of them!) are flown in live that day from the Maritimes, and are cooked and served, along with striploin steaks, by Kiwanis members. The event is held at Georgetown High School. Tickets are $70 and include all-you-can-eat (while supplies last) steak and lobster, plus salad, rolls, baked potatoes, dessert and coffee. After a delicious dinner, stay and dance the evening away. In 2006, the Kiwanis Club was able to donate $7,000 for Hope Place, which runs addiction treatment centres in Halton. The club also recently made its final donation to the Georgetown Hospital ($30,000 in total) for the newly refurbished emergency waiting room upgrades and completed its final payment of $10,000 to the Gellert Centre ($120,000 in total).
