Purpose of Public Meeting and Open House In accordance with the Planning Act, 2006, a municipality is required, every 5 years, to hold a special meeting of Council, open to the public, and an open house to determine if the municipality's Official Plan requires revisions. Specifically, the Act requires that an Official Plan be revised to ensure that it: conforms to Provincial Plans and does not conflict with them; has regard to matters of Provincial interest; and, is consistent with Provincial Policy Statements. Since the Town's last 5-Year Official Plan Review public meeting in 2002, there have been a number of significant new provincial legislative and policy changes which must be reviewed and which could necessitate revisions to the Caledon Official Plan. The Provincial Policy Statement 2005 (PPS 2005), which came into effect March 1, 2005; Bill 135, The Greenbelt Act received Royal Assent February 24, 2005 and the Greenbelt Plan, which took effect December 14, 2004; Bill 51, The Planning and Conservation Land Statute Law Amendment Act, which received Royal Assent October 19, 2006; and, Bill 136, The Places To Grow Act, which received Royal Assent June 13, 2005, and the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe which took effect June 16, 2006. Potential policy matters that may require revisions to the Official Plan in order to achieve conformity with the above-noted documents have been identified in Planning & Development Report 2007-22, which was submitted to Council on May 15, 2005. The purpose of the Public Meeting and Open House is to make this information available to the public and receive input. It should be noted that no specific policy revisions are being considered for adoption at this time.
