Kovacevik, a center mid-fielder on the Bearcats Varsity Boys Soccer team, was selcted for his assist and good offense against King's Christian Collegiate. Dalgleish, a defensive right on the Bearcats Varsity Girls Soccer team, was recognized for her exceptional play in her position throughout the season. Georgetown District High School Athletes of the Week are Simon Treviranus and Rebecca Bond. Treviranus, a Grade 12 student and fly half for the senior Rebels' rugby squad, scored a try in a 28-0 trouncing of Milton. Bond, a fly half on the Rebels girls rugby team was chosen for her good tackling and runs during recent action against Loyola. Christ the King Athletes of the Week are Camille Isip and Dustin Roskam. Isip scored both goals from her midfield spot for the junior Jaguars' girls' soccer team in a 20 win over E.C. Drury as CtK closes in on first place in its division. Roskam plays shortstop for the 4-1 Jags' boys' baseball team that is preparing for the Halton playoffs. He went 2-for-3 with a home run and three stolen bases in an 8-6 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas during the Golden Horseshoe qualifying tourney in which the Jaguars were eliminated on a tiebreaker. Hofland tops Georgetown's Kaitlyn Hofland is congratulated by her coach, Chris Foo of Gymnastics Ontario, after scooping up the all-around gold medal for her Level 9 division at the Eastern Canadian Championships held in St. John, N.B. recently. The 10-year-old Hofland finished first on bars, added a silver medal in the floor exercise and earned bronze on the beam and vault for the overall team champs from Ontario. Cheerforce cheerleaders to hold tryouts Tryouts for the 2007-08 Cheerforce Flyers' competitive youth cheerleading program are coming up this week on the heels of remarkable success at the national and provincial levels for the relatively young organization's teams. Based out of the Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre, the Flyers are entering their third year of existence with plenty of momentum after their teams earned two gold medals at the recent Cheer Alliance Nationals in Kitchener, along with a silver, bronze and two all-around titles. As well, other Cheerforce teams competed in the U.S. Spirit event in Florida. For next season, a "Mini" team is being introduced for athletes eight years old and younger, with the first tryout coming up Monday, May 28 at the gymnastics centre on Armstrong Ave. from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cheerforce's Youth group (11 & under) will also stage auditions Monday from 7:30-9 p.m. Head coach Frank Vurro said he plans to expand the Junior program to two full teams next year and anyone age 12-14 can attend a practice tomorrow (Saturday) from 2-4 p.m. The Senior Flyers will conduct tryouts tonight (Friday) from 6:30-9 p.m. and again Sunday from 7:30-10 p.m. For more information visit the website www.cheerforceflyers.com.
