I found the manual to be quieter in operation, especially during light acceleration up an incline, than the CVT. The reason is simple. Hit the gas in the CVT and it revs higher than the manual as the gears (sliding belts actually) bring the Patriot up to speed. The manual uses slightly less fuel than the CVT but the CVT is noticeably better than an automatic, ergo some engine noise is probably worth it in the long run. Plus very few people these days want, or know how, to use a stick shift. In this day and age with fuel prices that keep rising, going the CVT route instead of automatics is going to save millions of barrels of oil around the world. Like the Compass there are a host of extras you can dial in but my favorite continues to the YES Essentials seating fabric that resists water, stains, microbes and what I used to call "baby mess" when my mega-sized teens were still babies. There's also the Boston Acoustics premium sound system with fold-down boom box grafted into the rear tailgate or Bluetooth Uconnect handsfree communications. But what the Patriot exudes is Jeepness.
