8 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, June 1, 2007 YOU AND YOUR PET Milo asks for a second chance JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Special to The IFP Milo...yes ...you have seen me before, but here I look even more handsome. I am the Rotti-Cross that was featured a few months ago in the paper-- you can read that story at www.uppercredit.com/Shelter News. I am very sad-- no one seems to care enough about me because not one phone call was registered wanting to know more about me. I am told that it shows perseverance, steadfast character, and optimism that instead of letting it get me down and falling into "depression" I have kept my spirits up. This has been greatly helped by the fact that many of our staff and volunteers have been spending extra time with me, teaching me manners, and harnessing my energy directing it into training and learning commands-- how I love the attention. I am responding rapidly and well. Believe it or not, they have learned that I am very trainable especially for treats. Food-oriented training techniques are fun and welcome in my life! There is nothing wrong with me physically or mentally that a firm loving family cannot fix. Look how I have progressed and I reiterate that I am so proud that I have kept my spirits up through this long wait. I need to go to people (adult/older children) who understand dogs who need leadership and training and will con- Pet of the Month tinue with the training that has been started at the shelter. Look at my face in my new picture, do I look proud of myself? Woof! Give me a chance to make YOU PROUD and become your loved, faithful companion. Please someone call me, 519-833-2287 at the Shelter for a "meet and greet". Georgina seeks quiet home to match her nature Georgina-- pensive, calm, just a lovely, quiet, mature feline dressed in her orange, white trimmed coat. Georgina was very ill when she arrived at the shelter, but her stoic little personality and gentle nature persuaded us that restoring her health was the only option. Georgina made an excellent recovery, but as she is a mature girl (but not at all aware of it) her teeth had lived too many years and were GEORGINA making her mouth unbearably sore-- enjoyable eating was not an option. What a difference surgery makes... now she loves her food and is eating up a storm. We are hoping to find Georgina a quiet, loving home (adult only) to while away her days. A multiple cat household would be fine for Georgina as her loving nature encompasses those of her own species. Can you help Georgina find peace? Call the UCHS Shelter at 519-833-2287 to hear that purr! Haley has great potential Haley! What a seemingly happy girl. She's a pretty two-year-old chocolate lab mix-- gorgeous "like liquid chocolate"-- and is sweet, loving and bouncy and full of a life to be lived. What is the downside here? Haley is unsure around new situations, fearful meeting people for the first time. She needs patience and love to reach her potential. Haley is food-oriented (easier to train) and will warm up a little more quickly if you have a cookie for her! Haley shows her retriever genes by loving to play fetch and is very people-oriented when they are familiar so should bond very quickly to a new family. Training classes are a must with Haley, and while she is still learning to control her natural inhibitions, a home without small children would be optimum. Haley has great potential and in the right home will HALEY grow into a loyal, loving companion and deserves this second chance. Got a cookie?... give this girl a call at 519833-2287 and make her day!
