Seniors, Friday, June 8, 2007 7 Seminars continue on knowing when to downsize your home Links2Care is presenting a three-part series on Knowing when it's time to downsize. The series is free and a lunch and door prizes will be provided. The three consecutive sessions will be held on June 7, 14 and 21, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Acton Fire Hall, 21 Churchill Rd. South (please park in the side lot adjacent to Home Hardware). Attend all three or just choose one. The second session includes a TD Bank financial advisor providing information on services for seniors, a lawyer, and a Halton Regional Police Elder Services police officer who will talk about frauds and scams that seniors should keep an eye out for. The third session includes information about supportive housing and rent geared-to-income housing. Specialists include representatives from ESAC (Elderly Services Advisory Committee) and HATCH (Halton Access to Community Housing). Reserve your seat by calling Terri Forbes, Links2Care seniors coordinator, 519-853-3310. Home maintenance help for seniors Seniors can receive help with lawn mowing, gardening, yard maintenance, seasonal housecleaning (yes even windows!), painting and home repairs by calling the Home Maintenance Program. These services on all furniture orders are provided by qualified individuals at an affordable cost. Please call Kim, 905-8736502. Volunteers wanted for seniors programs Meals on Wheels is a wonderful service in our community, and there is a growing need for volunteers, especially in Acton. Volunteers are needed to pick up meals in Milton and to deliver lunchtime meals in the Acton area. The time commitment would be between one and two hours either once a week or alternating weeks. Mileage is reimbursed and vacation time is respected! The Telephone Assurance Program matches volunteers with seniors who would like a friendly visit through phone conversation. Volunteers are needed to brighten someone's day with daily or weekly phone calls. If you would enjoy a volunteer role in these, or other Links2Care programs, please call Marlene at 905-8736502 or 519-853-3310.
