Raiders' GM quits EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Kevin Lachance's tenure as general manager of the Georgetown Raiders lasted just two months as the former Hamilton Red Wing head scout submitted his resignation on Tuesday to the OHA Provincial Jr. A Hockey League club. Lachance was hired by the Raiders just a couple of weeks after Hamilton defeated Georgetown in the league's West Conference final in four straight games in March. The 30-year-old was brought in as part of the Raiders' new management team that also includes director of player personnel Lonnie Freeman and director of scouting Bill MacIntyre. When contacted by phone on Wednesday, Lachance was reluctant to discuss his reasons for resigning. "It just wasn't the right situation for KEVIN me," he said. LACHANCE Considered one of the bright young minds in the OPJAHL, Lachance helped construct a Red Wing side that went on to lose to the eventual national Jr. A champion Aurora Tigers in the league semifinals. "It was a bit of a surprise to us but Kevin did indicate to me that he wasn't having fun and perhaps entering the position of manager for a Jr. A team wasn't what he had expected," said Raiders' owner/president Ted Nishi, who added that the GM's duties will be shared by the remaining management staff members in the interim. The announcement comes a couple of weeks after the team held a successful rookie camp in Etobicoke and made a couple of player trades. Twenty-year-old centre Andrew Ella of Orangeville was acquired from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the B.C. Jr. A loop in exchange for the playing rights to defenceman Matt Thomson. The Raiders also picked up a couple of players from the Orangeville Jr. A Crushers for future considerations. Former Halton Hurricane standout blueliner Jeremy Wick, an 18year-old from Grand Valley, will join forward Trevor Branning of Brampton, 19, in the Georgetown lineup. Wick was one of the top rookie scoring defencemen in the league last season with 23 points, while Branning had 14 goals in 44 games for Orangeville. The Raiders will open their main training camp Aug. 20. The club will also participate in the Woodchuck pre-season tournament in Vermont in early September. $ 1,500 HONDA DOLLARS ...or customize your new Honda with genuine Honda Accessories! Laforet each scored hat tricks for the Halton Hills Bulldogs as they defeated the host Scarborough Saints 12-10 Tuesday in an Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. B contest. The stubborn Saints, battling for a playoff spot with a 411-0 record, gave the 11-5-0 Bulldogs a rough ride as the game was tied at seven at its mid-point before Board struck for two quick goals to earn Halton Hills the lead for good. Winners of seven of their last eight games, the 'Dogs have an opportunity to pull even in the Southeast Division standings with second-place Mimico as the two teams clash tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex.
