Photo by Ted Brown Police nab incognito robbery suspects LISA TALLYN Staff Writer A man posing as a convenience store employee who police later charged with robbery sent Halton officers on a wild-goose chase Monday morning when they responded to an alarm at the Mac's store at Delrex Blvd. and Hwy. 7 in Georgetown. When officers arrived at the store shortly after 10:30 a.m. a man dressed as a Mac's employee rushed out and told them that someone had attempted to rob the store and in what direction the suspect had fled. At that time police said they assumed the man was a victim and worked at the store, but later that day he and another man, who was found hiding in the false ceiling of the store, A man is interviewed by Constable Lisa Smith. Police also viewed a security tape from a neighbouring business. Taylor said police became suspicious, and when an officer went back into the Mac's store to question the man, a clerk at the store who had been forced into the freezer during the robbery opened the freezer door from the inside and yelled out to the officer, "That's the robber!" Taylor said police then arrested the man they originally thought was an employee without incident, and the Mac's clerk who had been forced into the freezer area of the store with a female employee of the store were released unharmed. Both men are from Brampton. Halton Regional Police Service Acting Det. Sgt. Duncan Taylor said after responding to the alarm and speaking with the man believed to be an employee, two officers remained at the store to continue the investigation there, while other officers began searching the area for the suspect. The service's canine unit was brought in and the search continued for about an hour, but no one was found.
