Thousands of people are expected to enjoy the three-day event from July 27-29. Photo by Lisa Tallyn Homecoming fever catching on People coming from far and wide for July 27-29 celebration LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Bathroom time will be at a premium at Maddie Howat's house next weekend. Battles for that popular room-- she only has one-- will likely ensue with all five of her daughters (along with their husbands and her grandchildren) back in their childhood home on Henry St. for Homecoming 2007 (July 27 to 29). But the 53-year resident of Georgetown thinks she may have solved that problem by renting a port-a-potty. And with only three beds in her bungalow she says some of her brood will have to sleep in the backyard in tents, or on air mattresses in the basement. Despite the cramped quarters, Howat couldn't be more excited her daughters are coming home. Her eldest, Linda Lahey, 59, is coming all the way from Queensland, Australia. Ruth Acres, 52, is coming from Ottawa, Roberta Skalicky, 51 from Revelstoke, B.C., Joy Van Schyndel, 49, from Vancouver B.C., and Joan Hansen, 46, is coming home from Paris, Ontario. "I'm looking forward to it," says Howat, 82. While she has seen them individually, she says the whole family has not been together for two years since her husband (the girl's father) Ken died. When Howat and her husband moved to town from Port Credit in 1954 she remembers paying about $4,500 for their Henry St. home. All of their daughters attended Park School and, except for Joy who went to General Wolfe in Oakville, they went to Georgetown Disrict High School. They are looking forward to seeing each other, and friends, at Homecoming. Marg Helson, 85, who has lived all her life in Georgetown, is also planning to attend. She too is looking forward to connecting with old friends, including Nancy Mallett of Toronto, whom she has known for about 60 years. She met Mallett in the 1940s when Mallett stayed with her aunt Betty Barber in Georgetown and attended school here for only four months while her family's home was being built in Toronto. During that short visit, the two girls became fast friends and have remained close. She's also eager to see another old friend, Barbara Cousens, who is coming from British Columbia.
