24 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, July 20, 2007 CORRECTION NOTICE To our valued customers: We apologize for any inconvenience caused by an error in our flyer dated: July 20 - July 26. Acton Seniors have Gals on the Go JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre We will be missing a familiar face around the Acton Arena and Community Centre in the future. Al Hays, the arena manager retired as of June 29 after 25 years with the Town. We will miss him and wish him a long and happy retirement. Make time to do all the things you have always wanted to do Al, as time passes so quickly! Alice Clarke, our transportation and reception chairperson is moving shortly. She has done great job of organizing the people at the front desk over the past few years. Pat Jones has taken up the challenge of making sure there is always someone at reception to welcome people. Thanks Alice for a job well done, and especially thanks Pat for taking over such an important chair. The complimentary passes are still available for the Acton Seniors Centre. They are good until the end of August. Then you can purchase a regular membership, which will be pro-rated for the remaining months of Sept. to Dec. and the following 12 months. Memberships are always due at the end of December. Things are quieter over the summer, but we never close except for the Civic holiday. There is still canasta and cribbage on Thursday mornings and in the afternoon bid euchre, summer exercise class on Wednesday mornings and Friday mornings, shuffleboard before lunch, followed by bingo in the afternoon. On the third Wednesday of the month we have regular games of euchre in the evening. You can always pop in on a hot day, pick up a book and enjoy air conditioning. There is always someone to talk to. If you come to the centre over the summer you will notice a few changes. The lounge area has been put in a more welcoming area, so hopefully people will enjoy sitting on the sofas in comfort. Although the lounge area was lovely it wasn't used very much due to the all the items that seem to get stored there. We now are the proud owner of a Brunswick Heritage pool table, which is in this area and hopefully this will encourage more men (and ladies too) to attend. This is thanks to a kind donation from an anonymous benefactor in Georgetown. Dobbie tells me it just needs cleaning, a cover purchased and the pool cues repaired and it will be all set to go. Too hot to cook? The Acton Seniors Centre have lunch every Friday at noon. Some weeks it's soup and a sandwich and others, potluck or a mystery lunch. It is open to members of both the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres, but you MUST sign up by Thursday at the latest. It only takes a phone call, 519-853-5951. Pat Frizzell asked me to mention that there will be no Good Food Box orders in August. That is a great idea that really took off. There are often 50 boxes of fresh assorted vegetables and fruits being picked up each week. There were three new players at the bid euchre last week. Eileen and Henry Wedge usually play on a Wednesday evening, but decided to play the Thursday afternoon bid euchre too. Betty Brewer was enjoying the game also. Muriel Dzierla had the first mooner followed quickly Mae Milton and Joan Bateman. Betty tells me there is still room on Tuesday, August 14 for the trip to Sharon Temple, lunch at the Briars and then a short drive to Baldwin to visit the Blue Willow Butterfly Conservatory, with a stop at a farmers market. The Acton Seniors Centre's recently formed ladies group named Gals on the Go had a great response to the Mohawk trip. There are 47 ladies signed up. Luckily, Mowhawk was able to accommodate the additional people. Please be at the Seniors Centre on Monday, July 30 by 5:45 p.m. as the bus will leave at 6 p.m. sharp. We will be leaving Mohawk at 10:15 p.m. so we shouldn't be too late getting home. It is very important that the ladies who signed their names on the original list come in and pay, as a deposit has to be made, and I don't want to find that the totals are incorrect at a later date. With such a great response I am now wondering about the feasibility of a trip to Woodbine for either the Standard Bred races or the harness races as they stay open until November. I am getting more details this week. One great idea for the end of September is a steam train ride and lunch that runs from Orangeville to the Forks of the Credit. Look for a signup sheet when Yvonne Cresswell has more details. The Gals on the Go trip to the St. Lawrence Market will be in early September on a Saturday when the farmers' market will also be open. I am hoping for September 8, which will be after Labour Day, but before the Acton Fall Far. It will mean an early start but we will be home in early afternoon (ready for the little nap if necessary). If any members of the Georgetown Centre are interested in joining us on the Gals on the Go trips just phone me, Julie, 519-853-2063. I am afraid at this point it is ladies only as our men's group would not let me join them on their Men In Motion trips so we started our own. Product: Shaw DCT6416 HD-PVR. On page 19 of the July 20th flyer we advertised $200 in programing credits when in fact it is $100 in total programing credits awarded $10 per month.
