4 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, August 15, 2007 Police blotter Happy 60th Anniversary ED & JANET TELLIER Teens wielding machete, pellet gun face charges after robbery in cemetery Two Georgetown youths, who can't be named under the Criminal Youth Justice Act, are facing charges after a robbery in Greenwood Cemetery (King and Mountainview Rd. area of Georgetown) at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Halton Police report two Georgetown male youths, who went to the cemetery after someone asked to meet them there, were approached by two males with their faces partially covered with bandanas. One of the males was brandishing a machete, and the other a pellet gun. They demanded money, argued with the teens, and one of the teens was hit over the head with the pellet gun. He was not seriously injured. One victim's bike was also damaged before the teens, who didn't turn over any money, fled the area. Police later charged two Georgetown males, one 17, the other 16, with robbery and assault with a weapon. Police say the teens and suspects know each other and the incident appears to be related to an ongoing dispute. ··· Guelph Police attended to an intoxicated 21-year-old Georgetown man who dived into the Speed River just before 5 a.m. Sunday morning. "He was on the Gordon Street bridge when two unknown females dared him to jump off into the river," said Sergeant Manfred Hoyer. The man subsequently did so and hit the rocky bottom. The water at that location is about two feet deep. The man suffered a cut to his head and was complaining of numbness in his legs, a sore neck and a headache. The victim was transferred to Hamilton General Hospital for observation. No foul play is suspected, Hoyer said. ··· Police are investigating the theft of a 2007 Honda ATV from a Fourth Line Halton Hills property sometime over the weekend. The ATV was taken from a trailer and had the licence plate 99MA7 on it. ··· A Mississauga man is facing a drug related charge after police stopped a vehicle during a RIDE spot check at Young St. and Peel St. in Acton early Sunday morning. The vehicle's occupant was found to be in possession of 29 grams of marijuana. Charged with possession of a controlled substance is Oral Aiken, 27, of Strathaven Dr. ··· A set of Taylormade golf clubs belonging to an employee of Granite Ridge Golf Club valued at $2,200 was taken from the starter shack at the Dublin Line golf club sometime last Saturday (Aug. 4) between 6 and 10:30 p.m. ··· A Halton Hills man was charged with impaired driving and having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood after police stopped a vehicle in the Mountainview Rd. and River Rd. area early Friday morning. Charged is Thomas Desmond, 21, of Tenth Line. ··· Police are investigating a break and enter into Acton High School that occurred early Friday morning. Entry was gained through an unlocked door. An alarm went off and a private security company responded but the culprits had fled. Nothing was taken. ··· Approximately $550 worth of items were stolen sometime late Thursday or early Friday from the bed of a pickup truck parked at a Raylawn Cr. Home. Stolen was a Stihl lawn trimmer and chain saw. ··· Police report $2,000 worth of tools were taken from a utility trailer at Peter Schmuki Construction on Pert St. in Acton sometime Friday or Saturday. ··· Tools and a Playstation console, valued at about $600 in total, were taken from a detached garage on Arthur St. during a break and enter sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 8.
