The 16-year-old Thomson recorded rounds of 75-82-75-77 to finish a dozen shots behind the winner from Quebec. Players from Colombia also took part and Canadian players were invited to participate based on their rankings in the Royal Canadian Golf Association's CN Future Links Order of Merit this year. ··· Samantha Spencer of Georgetown South fired a round of 90 to win the girls' 10-12 category by several strokes at a Canadian Junior Golf Association Linkster Series event held at the Springwater Golf Course near Barrie last week. The 11-year-old Spencer also placed in a tie for second spot after shooting a 101 during a CJGA Linkster Series event at the Streetsville Glen Golf Club. The North Halton junior member just recently returned from the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. as a member of the Canadian team. She turned in an 88 as one of her three rounds at the event, in which she placed 66th in the girls' 11-year-old division. ··· In other CJGA tournaments, Andrew Tressel's home-course knowledge almost landed him a victory at the Adams Golf Junior Classic tourney held last week at the Blue Springs Golf Club. Tressel fired rounds of 78-75 to finish at nine-over-par, just one stroke back of co-winners Ben Glynn of Brockville and Oakville's Stuart Favretto in the boys' 17-19 age category. At the CJGA's Kaneff Junior Series stop, Jake Wood of Georgetown placed fourth in the boys' 14-16 age group with a round of 88 at the Lionhead Golf & Country Club's Masters Course. Another 14-year-old local resident, Derek Kessel, finished tied for ninth after a 99. Midget Hawks off to P.E.I. for tourney A runner-up finish in the midget girls' division of the Provincial Women's Softball Association playdowns has earned the Halton Hills Hawks a trip to P.E.I. for the Eastern Canadian Championships beginning tomorrow (Thursday). The Hawks lost 7-2 to host Palmerston in the PWSA final contest and had to settle for silver medals, but the top two teams from Ontario qualify for the Eastern tourney in Alberton, P.E.I. which will run Aug. 23-26. It's been a hectic summer for the midget Hawks, who won the PeelHalton league title with a 9-0-3 record and also played at the World Series of Fastpitch event in Florida. Halton Hills lost twice to Palmerston during the provincial championships Aug. 10-12 in the double-knockout format.
