However, the municipality is still asking homeowners and busi- nesses to voluntarily restrict their outdoor water use on an odd/even basis, meaning those with street addresses ending in odd numbers can water their lawns on odd-num- bered days and those with even- numbered addresses can get out the hose on even days. Outdoor watering includes watering lawns, flowers, vegetable gardens, trees and shrubs. To further p r e s e r v e Haltons water supply resi- dents are also asked to refrain from washing their driveways or the sidewalks. The Region extended its thanks to everyone who complied with the water use restrictions, which helped preserve essential water supplies. We are grateful to Halton resi- dents and businesses for their patience and co-operation through- out the restriction period, said Regional Chair Gary Carr. Haltons planning and public works staff is monitoring the Regions water reservoir levels close- ly. If the hot, dry weather returns it may become necessary to upgrade the level of the watering ban. Since lawns only need one inch of water once a week to stay healthy its not necessary to water on every odd or even day. By using a rain gauge residents can accurately mon- itor the amount of water their lawn receives naturally each week. Region lifts water use restrictions It may still be summer but the Town of Halton Hills Public Works is getting ready for winter. The depart- ment has purchased two tandem trucks with snowplow equipment with a combined price tag of $450,377. The frame rails on both trucks have eroded to the point they could not pass the annual and required Ministry of Transportation safety inspection. As well, the trucks firewalls have eroded allowing exhaust fumes into the cabs. The trucks will be delivered by December 14. Without the trucks in service, the Town would not be able to meet its snow clearing minimum standards. The trucks would have been replaced in the 2008 budget, but due to the emergency necessitated by the deteriorating of the trucks, the funding schedule was moved forward.
