The Mill Pond.
Text on the back reads: "This view must have been photographed hundreds of times over the past 80 years, there is almost a duplicate of this one among L.M. Montgomery's photos of Norval, and like this one, probably taken about 1933. The Mill Pond was the playground, winter and summer, for all the young people in the village and for several miles around. The safest ice for skating was usually on the main pond, but to get to it you had to cross the swift-flowing river just above the dam which froze a bit later - one at a time we would glide over that rubbery' ice which 'waved' ahead of you and you wondered if the wave' would break. There was another way to get on theice around by the meadow bout our shortcut always won out. Later in the winter we skated on the big river' behind McKinney's blacksmith shop, and would build a fire on the ice with pine stumps, courtesy of Mr. McKinney, who unwittingly supplied them! The swimming was great and the water was clean, if you owned an old pair of skates and a bathing suit what more did you need? In the fall, the reflected colours from the hill were simply beautiful and the Presbyterian spire let you know exactly where you were.
