During the program police stopped a total of 35,877 vehicles in spot checks. Police administered 190 roadside breath tests with 28 drivers receiving 12-hour licence suspen- sions. In addition, 10 drug charges and 300 Highway Traffic Act charges were laid, five people were charged with driving while under suspension, three novice drivers were charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration above zero, and 27 people are facing insurance violations. Locally, police stopped 9,710 vehicles in Halton Hills in spot checks and issued three 12- hour suspensions, 73 traffic tickets and charged two G1 or G2 drivers with having alcohol in their blood. In addition to the RIDE charges, community patrol officers charged 22 other drivers with impaired driving offences three in Halton Hills. Although the Christmas RIDE program is com- pleted, police will continue to conduct RIDE spot checks throughout the year.
