I just couldn't leave out one of the most popular ways to loose your dentures. Whether they've indulged the night before with too many alcoholic beverages, or they just plain catch a flu bug and the old stomach just can't take it anymore, those poor plates end up in the toilets! That right, the toilet! People desperately grabbing for them as the suction of the water swiftly hirls them into the sewer. So that's why those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have such perfect smiles! I must warn all you denture wearers now: Denture breakage, or loss, almost always happens at the most inopportune times, such as the Christmas holidays. So if you're travelling, don't pack them in you're luggage; if the luggage get's lost so do your dentures! And if they fall out in your soup, very discreetly fish them out! Or while hitting those high notes while singing those X-mas carols, and you find your denture in your song book, just hope the others have had one too many egg nogs and didn't notice! And if Aunt Emma's turkey just isn't as tender as it used to be, prevent breakage; soak your meat in gravy! And remember, even Old Saint Nick himself has mishaps with dentures now and again. If his dentures break, then "Santa Claus is gumming to town!" You do not need a referral; simply call our office direct. www.georgetowndentureclinic.com Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, January 9, 2008 5 With the recent meltdown and rain pre- dicted for the next couple of days Conservation Halton (CH) is reminding people, particularly children, to stay away from streams and rivers. On Monday, CH issued a High Water Safety Bulletin stating total rainfall amounts for the next few days are antici- pated to be 15 to 20 mm and the mild tem- peratures will also result in the melting of the existing snow pack in the watershed. A lot of the snow we received has been melted and absorbed into the ground, said Ray Guther, CH Manager Watershed Engineering Services. With additional rainfall and soils already being saturated, what well see is much of that rainfall run- ning off and getting to the streams quick- ly. That will result in more flow in areas streams and rivers that could reach bank- ful levels. Guther added they are not expecting any severe flooding, due partly to the fact water levels were lower than normal because of drought conditions last summer and fall, but there could be some localized flooding in low-lying areas. With water levels rising, slippery and still icy banks and fast moving cold water in area streams, Guther said all water- courses should be considered dangerous at this time and CH is urging people to use extreme caution around bodies of water and stay well back from streams. CH recommends all children be made aware of the dangers. CH: Stay away from swollen rivers The rapid rise in temperatures this week, along with the rainfall, have made area waterways (like the Credit River in Glen Williams) particularly hazardous as local con- servaton officials are warning people to stay away from riverbanks. Photo by Ted Brown LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Black and Decker is recalling its ST2000 Infrawave Toaster. Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services recently received notifica- tion of the recall. The Ontario Electrical Safety Authority and the distributor Applica Canada say an electrical component in the ST2000 toaster can overheat and ignite the circuit board, pos- ing a fire hazard. They also suggest consumers stop using the affected products and unplug the unit immediately. Applica says it has received four reports of the toasters overheating, including two reports of fire that caused damage to the kitchen. There have been no reported injuries. The two-slice black and white toaster with stainless steel trim has been sold at home improvement and discount department retail- ers nationwide, including Canadian Tire and London Drugs between March and November 2007. Consumers with questions or concerns should call Applica at 1-800-556-9439 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Consumers can also log onto the companys website at www.acprecall.com.
