It should be noted, however, that the third-year nursing student made an easy transition from short-course competitive swimming with the Acton Aqua Ducks into water polo, and because lefthanded right-side shooters who can average more than two goals per game are a rare strate- gic asset for most teams. I was a competitive swimmer until Grade 11 and then my times started plateauing, said the 20-year-old Faber. I was introduced to water polo and it really appealed to me because I always liked the training part of swimming and I was for- tunate enough to be able to try it out with a club in Guelph and I loved it. In her third year with the Marauders, Faber recorded a team-high 17 goals in eight games including a five-goal effort against reigning champion Carleton of Ottawa to finish up tied for fifth place in OUA scoring. McMaster ended up losing to Carleton 7-5 in the OUA championship game at the University of Toronto but the out- come may be different next year when Faber and a handful of other Marauders return for their final season of eligibility. The Erin High School graduate trains and plays recreationally throughout the year in a league that features teams from around the Golden Horseshoe region, even though the university season lasts less than two months. Faber said shed like to get into coaching at some point. Its a really good sport. You have to be able to play both offence and defence and its like basketball in a lot of ways. It com- bines a lot of different aspects like setting screens and driving to the net, and youre constantly making the transition from offence to defence. Shes now hopeful of earning some team tro- phies in her final year at Mac. Heading into the contest, the Raiders were tied with Hamilton and Brampton in the leagues West Division points parade as all three are shooting for the coveted second seed and a first-round playoff bye along with the first-place Oakville Blades, who at 31-4-3 are on a 19-game winning streak and wont be caught. The defending division-champion Red Wings have shown a split personality this season, having posted a 13-4-2 record on the road and a surprisingly mediocre 11- 10-0 at home. Georgetown saw the better side of the Wings in the first period of Wednesdays entertaining matchup as the hosts were outshot 16-6, challenged phys- ically and trailed 1-0 at the intermission. The 24-11-4 Raiders did recover, however, scoring three times in just over two min- utes early in the second period on their way to a 4-3 win. In the first period we played pond hockey so in the dressing room the coach- ing staff let our players know about it, Raiders use quick strike to subdue Red Wings 4-3 Georgetown Raiders forward Jeremy Wick tries to sneak the puck past Hamilton goalie Carson Hau and Red Wing defender Derek Szasz on Wednesday night in a matchup of Jr. A hockey clubs. The Raiders rebounded from a sluggish opening period and prevailed 4-3. Photo by Eamonn Maher See RAIDERS, pg. 6 EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer
