Council unanimously gave a green thumbs up to the Towns new environmental strategy, The Green Plan, at its December meeting. Staff will bring an Implementation Plan, with specif- ic actions on the recommendations, to council for approval in the middle of 2008. Ive very proud to say the Town of Halton Hills is one of only a handful of municipalities in Ontario to have a Green Plan, Mayor Rick Bonnette announced. It was on the Mayors initiative in the late spring of 2007 that the ball got rolling to begin work on a green strategy. He set up the Mayors Green Plan Task Force, comprised of councillors, staff and citizens of all ages and walks of life, with a mission to have a plan within six months. The interest has started at the grassroots level, said Wards 3&4 Regional Councillor Jane Fogal. Its really the community that has been pushing this agenda. People understand that we have very serious issues... and are frus- trated that the upper level of government are not reacting nearly quickly enough.
