Dakota is a handsome, intelligent mix-breed boy, approximately one year old and his life has not been one to envy. Dakota has not been loved as he should have been and cowers at sudden move- ments or raised hands but his spirit is intact. Dakota is really a teenager and as many of us know teenagers are not always easy to live with, but like most teenagers who develop into exceptionally agreeable adults, so do teenage dogs. A young dog like Dakota who has not had much training and love will become over- excited in the stressful shelter environment. This is a catch-22 because prospective adoptive families will shy away from a boisterous, bouncy canine and look for a quieter companion. By overlooking Dakota, you may very well be overlooking a true diamond in the rough who has his life before him and would give many years of companionship. Dakota is housebroken, food-motivated, walks exuberantly on leash (which he sees as a game) leaping happily to grab the lead to the dismay of the dog walker! Dakota appears to like other dogs, loves to play and would totally blossom with the regiment of train- ing classes. This intelligent boy would welcome the love and attention that the classes provide and would tend to bond more strongly with the family through this shared experience. Training classes are fun for all involved and are especially recommended for a very young dog who is seeking a second chance. Dakota will need a quiet, patient home (children 12+) until he becomes more confident and through training exhibits more adult canine manners. We at UCHS have had so many success stories with dogs like Dakota who after adoption have graced our Happy Endings on the website www.uppercredit.com Do you remember the Abba hit Take a Chance on Me? Our won- derful feline resident Chance is purring this song constantly in the hopes of catch- ing your atten- tion. Chance is an arrestingly hand- some, brown and white tabby, two years old, with yellow green eyes clev- erly made up with amazing fur markings which makes them look enormous. He is such a clean looking cat with the sparkling white facial markings which continue into his undercarriage! Can you imagine he was DUMPED on the Tennis Courts at UCHS. After spending a chilly night outside and being smart enough not to try and find a way out we found him just before the dogs were brought out. Thats why the Shelter named him Chance, because he got a second chance at life. Please take a chance on Chance, who is waiting to greet you at the Shelter, call to make an appointment 519-833-2287. He can be adopted alone or as part of the ongoing BOGO cat adoption (two for the price of one). We still have so many gorgeous felines of every description and we invite you to call and come down and meet them!
